Subject specifics and prospects.

The undergraduate programme of Modelling, Technologies and Management in the Sewing Industry is directly oriented towards the sewing industry. Throughout their study our students acquire extensive knowledge in the technical, technological, designer and managerial field of the sewing industry as well as specific practical skills necessary in this field.

These aims of the programme have been prompted by the social significance of the sewing industry for the country and for South-West Bulgaria in particular and meet the need of knowledgeable employees with high technological skills.

Clothing has always been and will be a basic human necessity, therefore specialists in the field of the sewing industry will always be in demand.

Educational mission

The aim of the education in Modelling, Technologies and Management in the Sewing Industry is to ensure conditions which will enable students to acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills. They will give students the ability to:

• organize the production process in a sewing company or its sections;
• control and coordinate the activities when new clothing items are introduced;
• to analyse and creatively implement the modern technical achievements, computers and measuring devices;
• to elaborate designer, technological and technical documentation in the field of the sewing industry.

In order to be able to accomplish the above tasks students obtain the compulsory knowledge by combining:

• general engineering fundamental knowledge in mathematics, physics for engineering, materials science, mechanical drawing, mechanics, theory of machines and mechanisms, computer technologies and software usage, etc;
• textile basics in textile science and testing, machines and processes in spinning, weaving and knitted fabrics production, unwoven textile;
• fundamental knowledge in the subject: clothing design and modelling, clothing technology, machines and equipment in the sewing industry, technological lines in the sewing industry, complete production of clothing items, management and marketing of the sewing industry, training in the sewing industry, which ensures the right balance between the theoretical knowledge and practical skills, etc.

Basis for receiving good training in the subject

Students' training in the subject of sewing technologies is ensured by the best material and technical foundation in Bulgaria. Among the facilities in the college there are two technical laboratories on sewing production with modern conventional and special sewing machines, as well as equipment for moisture and heat processing.

Students are educated by highly qualified academic staff consisting of two professors, eleven associate professors, three assistants- Ph.D and three assistants.

The academic staff in the department is engaged in research on problematic areas in the field and lays down conditions for the active participation of students in that research. All students, according to their interests, are encouraged to take part in various research teams.

As a result of the cooperative effort of the academic staff and students and their work on different projects the technological laboratories in the department are enriched by newly developed computer-integrated measuring systems for reading the temperature of the textile materials during moisture and heat processing, for examining the thread tension force with universal sewing machines.

During their studies in the subject students can use modern software products and equipment: specialized software for the estimation of the sewing thread consumption, provided by COATS, contemporary technical equipment provided by INA TRADING, etc. Experience in real production, individual and team work are also part of the studies students.

Future employment of our graduates

After graduating Modelling, Technologies and Management in the Sewing Industry  students can be employed by big companies, small business, as well as self-imployed. Our students will be able to design and produce clothing and textile items, to elaborate designer, technological, technical and managerial documentation for the sewing industry helped by modern computer systems, to keep and repair sewing machines, to design technological processes, to be involved in trading and logistics.

Our graduates are sought after; they are respected by the specialists in the field and are employed by elite Bulgarian and foreign companies in the sewing industry.

Opportunities for further professional education and postgraduate studies

During their studies in the subject our students can obtain additional teaching qualification.

After their graduation they can continue their studies for a master degree in the same or similar subject following curricula approved by the corresponding university.
