Annotation

Medieval Bulgarian History

The aim of doctoral studies in Medieval Bulgarian history is that PhD students who have completed this program can successfully work with the sources and historiographical achievements of the Bulgarian people's history in the Middle Ages. They will build skills to perform scientific analysis and synthesis related to the study of problems from medieval Bulgarian history. They will be prepared to make an updated reading and give new insights into science.

History of the Bulgarian people 15th - 19th century

The history of the Bulgarian people 15th - 19th century studies the development of the Bulgarian population under the Ottoman rule within the Bulgarian territories during 15th - 17th century as well as the Bulgarian Renaissance.  This PhD curriculum focuses on the acquisition and the ability of detailed interpretation of the socio-economic, political, religious and cultural aspects of the development of the Bulgarian society.

Modern Bulgarian History

The aim of the PhD course and the scientific research in Modern Bulgarian History is to continue building up the fundamental knowledge concerning the first decades of the modern Bulgarian state and deepen them in those parts referring to the social, economic and cultural history, the history of everyday life and the history of gender.

Contemporary Bulgarian History

Contemporary Bulgarian History refers to the period after 1944. The main purpose of the program is to develop candidates creativity for understanding the main definitions which are necessary for them to be professional and successful in exploring the sources from the time of the socialist regime in Bulgaria, the peculiarities of sources and the historiography from that period and in the historic changes of the contemporary development of Bulgaria; the characteristic features of the Bulgarian transition after 1989 and to make clear a number of problems from the area of Historiography, and public, civil discussions.
