Annotation

The Master programme "Pedagogical interaction with children with behavior problems' behavior" enables graduates with bachelor's or master's degree in the professional field of "Education" to specialize to work with the so-called "Difficult" or "problem" children and their families, the public institutions responsible for the  inspection and support of families with children with problem behavior. Training in this program is to prepare professionals with educational qualification parameters, enabling them to fully realize themselves in the system of education, to implement effective preventive and corrective work-oriented dynamic processes of change in personal and group development and to be able to positively influence the behavior of children and their parents.

The need for training highly qualified specialists for the system of pedagogical practice in kindergarten and primary school is determined by the increasing necessity of today's society to limit the negative social phenomena through preventive and corrective action, and psychological and educational support to children with problem behavior.

The Master's Programme 'Pedagogical  interaction with children with behavior problems' is based on:

- advances in psycho-hygiene and psycho-prevention and various trends in contemporary advisory pedagogy and psychology;

- implementation of appropriate methods for psychological and pedagogical diagnostics of variations in development and behavior, conducting socio-pedagogical and preventive work and research with diagnostic, prognostic and innovative character;

The curriculum and syllabi are developed according to the requirements of the higher education policies in Bulgaria.

The study lasts 2 (two) semesters. The curriculum provides 540 academic hours and 60 ECTS CR. The ECTS credits are divided equally in the two semesters according to the State requirements (article 44а of the Law for change and complement of the Law for higher education - State Journal, vol. 48/04.06.2004 and Regulation № 21 from 30.09.2004 for application of system for credit transfer in higher educational institutions - State Journal, vol. 89/12.10.2004).

The programme structure provides compulsory, elective and facultative courses.

The compulsory courses ensure that students acquire theoretical depth and specialized training to implement effective preventive, corrective and advisory activities.

The elective courses ensure the expansion and upgrade of theoretical and specialized training in the specialty by acquiring specific knowledge and competencies.

The facultative courses enable students to acquire new skills and knowledge of their interest that are not a part of the curriculum.

Students are to graduate after they successfully pass their final exam or defend their master thesis. For that final part of the master's programme they gain 10 ECTS CR (article 10 of Regulation № 21 from 30.09.2004).

The curricula contents, the programme structure, ECTS, the quality of education and the qualification gained enable students to be competitive on the labour market as special education specialists or resource teachers or to continue their education in Bulgaria or abroad.

Students who have successfully completed the Master program in pedagogical interaction with children with behavior problems, obtain the professional qualification of "Master - consultant-educator." They are prepared to carry out consultancy, preventive and corrective activities in kindergartens and schools, with families, social institutions and organizations.
Master of Pedagogical interaction with children with behavior problems have opportunities for professional development as:

• educator at  home care and upbringing of children deprived of parental care in school offices and centers for children;

• teacher in primary and secondary schools if they have the Bachelor's degree in the specialty;

• children kindergarten teacher if they have Bachelor's degree in the specialty;

• consultant in social educational centers and offices;

• expert and consultant in educational service centers, centers for career development, employment offices, the system of continuing vocational training;

• expert in municipal committees for child protection in the departments for child protection at the municipal directorates "Social Assistance";

• ombudsman.

Graduates in the Master's programme have the future possibility:

  • to specialize in different forms of continuing education and lifelong learning;
  • to proceed with their education in Ph.D programme.
