The specialty Bulgarian Folk Choreography in the South-West University Neofit Rilski, Blagoevgrad exists since 1997. It is successor of specialty choreographic Pedagogy which exists since 1992.

With decision of the Academic Council of the South-West University Neofit Rilski since 18.12.1991 is created specialty "Choreographic Pedagogy", the students being state order, regular part time education during 1991/92. Consequently its name is changed to Bulgarian Folk Choreography and it is included in the state register of the specialties of the universities (State newspaper, 8^th edition) with Act No. 4 since 14.11.1998. Consequently the name is changed into Bulgarian Folk Choreography and is included in the state Register of the specialties in the higher schools (State newspaper 8^th edition) with Act No. 4 dated 14 January 1998 for acquiring higher education in specialty Bulgarian Folk Choreography from professional trend Musical and Dance Art, bachelor and master.

The education is directed to the creation of specialists in Bulgaran Folk Choreography with high professional qualification, able to realize the acquired during the the time of studying knowledge and skills for solving of art creative tasks, pedagogical, scientific research and theoretical activity and choreographic critic. It is unique specialty ensuring the building of new type of artists, combining high professionalism as choreographer and pedagogue. This defines its place in the University structure not only on national scale but in the region of South - Eastern Europe.

Acquiring the achievements in the theory and the practice of the contemporary Bulgarian art, based on the traditions, the experience and the achievements of the most distinguished Bulgarian artists, choreographers, ethno graphs cultural workers and others towards the valueless treasure of the Bulgarian musical and dance folk, the future specialists will find out their personal and author presence and art realization by the creation of new highly artistic author choreographic works.

The main difference of our specialty with the others in the other higher schools is in the very concept of the study plan.
