Department "Choreography" was created to SWU Blagoevgrad in 1992. Initially specialty is "choreographic pedagogy" in section "choreography" at  the Department "Music". Since 1997 the specialty was renamed in to "Bulgarian folk choreography" and the department was established as separate from the Faculty of Arts.

Specialty  "Bulgarian Folk Choreography" defines the professional designation of a specialist degree "Bachelor" and qualification "Choreographer" at the professional field "Music and Dance art" and the qualification requirements for its preparation.

Duration of training 4 years ( full time) .

Aim of the course is to provide specialty specialists choreography with higher education as performers and teachers, realizing as : choreographers , directors and organizers of professional and amateur groups , children's dance groups at community centers, houses of culture, private dance formations , youth dance studios and clubs , teachers in Bulgarian folk dances in the education system , teachers and methodologists of Dance Arts in schools and children's centers for creativity and art.

Specialty "CONTEMPORARY CHOREOGRAPHY" Preparations in "Modern choreography" is aimed at the formation of knowledge about European and global contemporary dance achievements , skills for their use and development in their own original choreography in dance and ensembles ability to guide the learning process of Dance art .
In distinction from other educational programs where the direction is pinned only at masters degree offered in " Modern Choreography " provides orientation staging business since the early years of education, which will allow students more gradual and much more extensively to absorb this difficult profession - choreographer - director. Training period of one year (two semesters) - full time - to continue the education of students who have acquired degree "Bachelor" in the professional field "Music and Dance".
