The Chair of Music was established in year 1976 as one of the fundamental chairs of "N. Rilski" SWU.  The traditions in the field of musical education are combined with the high professional quality of the teaching staff and affordable tuition fee. These components provide a complex of the best conditions in Bulgaria for the professional training of young people. All the specialties were accredited in year 2007 by the Ministry of Education and Science for a maximum period of 6 years.  The information and ingeniousness are qualities required for successful career of any young man in any field, and particularly in ARTS. The Chair of Music at "N. Rilski" SWU of Blagoevgrad gives the young and willing people the opportunity to gather, study and have fun together.

The faculty of the chair consists of 16 lecturers employed on full-time basis and 20 part-time lecturers. Eight of the full-time lecturers have an academic rank - 5 professors and 3 associate professors.  There are 3 Doctors of art science and 8 Phd.

The good relationships of the Faculty with the cultural institutions in the town of Blagoevgrad - "Pirin" State Ensemble of Folklore Singing and Dancing, Chamber Opera of Blagoevgrad,  Radio of Blagoevgrad - provide the students with the opportunity to demonstrate their artistic gifts and achievements in the area of their major throughout the course of their studies.
