The South-West University "Neofit Rilski" was opened as a branch
of Sofia University "St. Climent Ohridski" in 1975. In 1983 it
becomes separate entity under the name Higher Pedagogical
Institute. With an act of the People's Assembly of the Republic of
Bulgaria in 1995 its name is changed to South-West University. The
name of the great enlightener Neofit Rilski is given to the
University.
