The town is situated on both banks of river Bistritsa at the
foothills of Rila Mountain. Along the river there is a pedestrian
path leading to park Bachinovo which is favorite place for walking
and relaxing. The central part of the town is newly built with cozy
hotels, mineral bath, cultural house, banks, administrative
buildings, covered market and green streets with many coffee shops.
The main square is on two levels with the dramatic theatre, the
regional library, the new post office, the municipality and the
district authorities. In the old part of Blagoevgrad are situated
the buildings from the time of Bulgarian revival, museum of
history, centre for work with children, monastery complex and small
restaurants, offering great variety of local meals and drinks. Both
universities, the schools and the cultural institutions make
Blagoevgrad - town of the toung people.
